alix dunham

Alix is passionate about boosting collective mental well-being. She founded Grit Workshops in 2015 after experiencing first-hand the challenges of supporting someone through a mental health struggle and realizing how scarce resources were. Driven to make a difference, she dove deeply into the neuroscience of mindfulness and developed a program—initially designed to support youth, and later expanded to empower adults.

As an educator and facilitator, she brings over 25 years of teaching experience, curiosity about the human condition, lived experience with mental illness and a genuine joy for researching, learning and sharing.

She is a parent, a certified meditation teacher, and a passionate facilitator.

Grit has been welcomed into over 30 schools across Greater Vancouver since 2022 and thousands of kids have enjoyed the benefits of getting on the ‘brain-train (aka mindful meditation).

Asha Diaz has been working with youth for over 10 years and is excited to expand her knowledge on exactly what it means to be an authentic human in the 21st century.

After completing her yoga teacher certification in 2015 and Meditation Teacher Training in 2019, she’s been a big inspiration for the Grit curriculum, and leads it with passion, understanding, and empathy. She understands going through the fire with mental illness and will stop at nothing until young people are heard and taken seriously.

Asha currently runs the Grit youth and adult programs in Ontario and believes in the movement and the positive ways in which youth can effect the world.
